MOO Mini Cards

How cool [and inexpensive!] - make mini biz cards from your Flickr images. How about posting pics of your recent church picnic/party/concert/whatever on Flickr, get cards made with your church name & address on the back and use them for promotion?

NYC Steakhouse

In my quest to find fine dining across the world, I submit my first installment: New York City Steakhouses.

Whenever I read about a cool restaurant in the newspaper [usually USA Today] or see it on TV [usually on the Travel Channel] I make a note in case I'm ever in that area.

I saw a TV special on steakhouses that mentioned the venerable NYC steakhouse
Peter Luger. Unfortunately, this is not the place one would breeze in to have lunch or dinner. Or call ahead and breeze in with a reservation. Come to find out you need a reservation quite a while in advance [they suggested a week when I tried in early October 2006 so you can imagine the wait during busy summer months.]

Instead, my cousin Mark and I enjoyed
The Old Homestead Steakhouse in the meat packing district. They claim to be the oldest steakhouse in NYC. I just might have eaten the most delicious steak of my life, their signature Gotham Rib Steak. So take that, Peter Luger.

Britney!

This is hilarious. Google has posted a page with all the misspellings, typed into their search engine, of pop star Britney Spears.

Mr. Roboto

I'm obsessed with robots. In fact, I'll only watch a movie if it has a robot, spaceship or laser beam in it. Chris Sligh, a movie fanatic, keeps asking me dumb questions like "Have you ever seen [insert name of some chick flick]?" to which I'll reply, "Now, Chris, does that movie have a robot in it? No? Then I haven't seen it."

So of course I was thrilled to visit Wired Magazine's NextFest in New York City last weekend. It was robot heaven. Robots walking around, dancing, talking, purring. Cuddly robots, menacing robots, weird robots, half-human robots.

My favorite robot was from some company that specializes in trying to make a realistic human face for a robot. It looks around, squints, smiles and moves his mouth. Creepy. Mark [my socialite NYC cousin] was freaked out by it. From a few steps away, he thought it was a real person. But then, getting closer, he could see it was basically just a robotic torso with an animated head.

Welcome

Welcome to the adventures of Don Chapman! I'm Don Chapman, your host. You may know me from my weekly WorshipIdeas.com website for church worship leaders, or from my arrangements and compositions from HymnCharts.com, WorshipFlow.com, PraiseSongStore.com or other published materials. This website will be a chronicle of the other fun [not necessarily religious] things I do: travel, food and pop culture.
